Johnny 5 Is Still Alive

Is Hollywood out of ideas? Has everything been done already? It would appear so, seeing as even the film Short Circuit has been tagged for a future remake.

There are a number of old movies I’d love to see remade someday. This is not really one of them.

It’s not that the original film was totally unbearable. It was entertaining to a degree, but I don’t think a remake of this film would be adding anything worthwhile to it at all.

I guess you could update the special effects and give Johnny 5 a movie makeover. But from a script point of view, the original wasn’t all that compelling or engaging to begin with.

For me, that old movie has a nostalgia factor; and that’s really about it. Its cheese grade is secure, the jokes still aren’t funny, and Johnny 5 continues to turn into an annoying wuss in it.

Can today’s movie makers improve on that?

I guess we’ll see. And yes, I’m still going to watch it. Call me a masochist.
