Grand Theft Auto IV

I’m pretty excited about GTA:IV. It looks badass, and I can’t wait to play. Unfortunately, I’ll have to.

I’m not a console player anymore. Haven’t owned one for a few years. The last console I played was Playstation 2. The last console I attempted to buy was the XBOX 360. The original attempts to get a 360 (at launch) failed miserably and I haven’t bothered trying to buy it or the new Playstation since.

I mainly game on my PC now, and more or less prefer it for different reasons.

I bought Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the PC from direct to drive not too long ago (I originally played this on PS2 when it first came out), to relive the story and get pumped for GTA:IV which is closing in fast.

Sadly, when looking over the Rockstar web site and googling for info, I couldn’t find anything about a date of release for PC for GTA:IV.

Developed by Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto IV will be simultaneously available for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system and Playstation 3 computer entertainment system and will be in stores worldwide on April 29, 2008.

Playing San Andreas and Vice City were both console experiences for me originally so I never bothered looking for info on whether or not it was released on PC simultaneously back then.

I guess SA and VC showed up long after they were released on the console too?

(Insert grumbling here.)

On one hand I suppose it’s strategic and smart, in a marketing sense, to release it later on the PC. But on the other hand I’m disappointed that PC players get left behind at launch.

The kind of excitement that builds for a new GTA is almost unbearable (remembering especially for when San Andreas came out), and I know it’s going to be a long ass six months … twelve months … who knows how many months, until it gets released for the ‘ol personal computer finally.

However… No protest here or hate for Rockstar, and for a rant this is pretty mild.

The thing is, I’m still excited about it even if I feel a bit shafted. And no matter what, I’ll sit here twitching anxiously until the day it gets pushed out on PC too and I can carjack my way to a Best Buy and grab myself a copy. Then spend the following week in front of the screen, deep inside the world Rockstar has created for us once again.

So until then, I guess my trip to Liberty City is indefinitely delayed, and I’ll be kicking it back on Grove St for a while like the rest of you PC gamers.
