Elephants Draw Better Than Me
I spent 5 years in an art college. During the ordeal I had to endure terrible classes like Color & Design and Illustration. Terrible because I wanted to be a writer (copywriter, in advertising), and had not a single ounce of illustrative skill in me.
I can handle (and enjoyed) digital imaging, but when it came to free handing something for those core classes like drawing and painting, I was totally ashamed of how ass-like my work came out.
Luckily, some instructors had pity on the advertising writing majors. <3
Well, it turns out I sucked worse than I thought. Check out this elephant taking a brush to canvas.1 Normally when I see videos or hear about intelligent animals painting or drawing, it’s very abstract. Not in this case. Just check out the video, and you’ll see. Kind of amazing really.
Damn you and your skills, giant mammal. A+

I wish I’d gone to school for what I was intended for: Art. Alas, hindsight ALWAYS is 20/20, right? My son is going for Game Design/Business, and has to take art classes, and though he wants to do comics, he DESPISES painting and art classes!! :)
I know what you mean about freehand though. I can never draw what I see in my head. The only thing that comes close is piddling around with Photoshop. Even then, it just doesn’t touched the warpediness of my brain :D
Rock on!
Ever thought of going back for something like that? Never too late! And I feel for your son completely. lol.. Tell him to keep his chin up and when all else fails bribe the head of department to excuse him from the annoying classes (I did!). Game Design, how cool! Was always jealous of the CGI guys in college who’d render out these amazing games and/or movies. Good move, for him. It’s a field that has all the potential in the world.
I want to see the warpediness! That kinda stuff fascinates me. It’s like peeking into someone’s personality. The hidden one that holds all the secrets. Do want!
