Big Trouble in Little Azeroth
Movies and games are two of my favorite subjects, and this is a cross over reference that I was completely oblivious to for a long time.
I queued up Big Trouble in Little China into Netflix recently.
Now, I can’t remember the last time I watched this, but it was just as good as I remember it being. And later on during the movie, something clicked in my head.
Remember this part?
Egg Shen: Can see things no one else can see. Do things no one else can do.
Jack Burton: Real things?
Egg Shen: As real as Lo Pan!
Jack Burton: Hey, what more can a guy ask for?
Egg Shen: Oh, a six-demon bag!
Jack Burton: Terrific, a six-demon bag. Sensational. What’s in it, Egg?
Egg Shen: Wind, fire, all that kind of thing!
Yeah, a six demon bag.
Besides being cheesy and funny, it was setting off alarm bells for some reason. And it wasn’t long before I figured out what was going on. There’s an item in World of Warcraft you can get, called Six Demon Bag.
It’s a blue (rare), can usually be found on the auction house, and is most likely over priced as it’s an unusual trinket that you can use mid level in warcraft.
The name by itself is hardly enough to suggest any kind of crossover or influence. You have to read the description to make the connection.
Use: Blasts enemies in front of you with the power of wind, fire, all that kind of thing!
I remember checking this out on the auction once, and laughing. What a weird and vague description for an item. And it never kicked in at the time that I’d heard this somewhere before.
I guess it had been a while since I’d seen Big Trouble in Little China after all.
So what does this mean?
Nothing. Other than someone from Blizzard thought it would be funny to use a reference from a movie they had once seen. And now I’m left wondering what other little easter eggs can be found in game. Pretty cool, Blizz.
